On the evening of Monday 2 May 2016, a fire broke out in the roof of a residence along route de Mondorf in Bettembourg.

The incident occurred around 21:20 when residents heard a loud bang and soonafter determined that the cause was a fire burning under the roof. A resident attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguish but was unsuccessful and the flames began rapidly spreading.

Firefighters from Bettembourg, Dudelange and Roeser were brought in to bring the flames under control. The two adjacent houses were evacuated for the sake of safety, but luckily no one was injured.

Preliminary investigations have suggested that a technical defect was to blame.
