More than 1kg of heroin was recovered during a large-scale police operation against drug trafficking conducted in the Gare district of Luxembourg City on Tuesday.

About 25 Luxembourg police officers, including two dog handlers, were involved in the operation which was conducted around 15:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Overall, several people were found in possession of drugs, with four other people identified as possible drug dealers. The prosecutor ordered clinical trials of the suspects to be carried out, resulting in scanner recordings showing that all four men had swallowed several packets.

In addition, the canine unit led to another person being suspected of being a drug dealer, who was found holding more heroin balls. A subsequent house search revealed more drugs and during the operation a total of 1kg of heroin and 30 other balls of heroin, cash and phones were discovered and confiscated.

Five people were arrested overall and will appear before the examining magistrate.
