At around 05:30 on Wednesday morning, a large fire broke out in the garage of a residential building along rue de la Fontaine in Dudelange.

The volunteer fire department from Dudelange was first to arrive on the scene and were later joined by volunteers from Kayl and Bettembourg.

The fire began to spread to the back of the apartment building even as the residents remained inside, who had to be evacuated by Dudelange police. Fortunately no one was injured during the fire. The volunteer fire department was able to rescue a dog from one of the apartments.

The fire was eventually brought under control at around 07:00, with an estimated 50 volunteers, several night shift officials and morning shift police officers and rescuers from Dudelange helping.

As arson cannot be excluded from the probable causes, officials from the metre-reading and detection services were brought in.
