Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, has come forward to commend the country's volunteer firefighters for what was termed their "exemplary commitment and assistance to flood victims".

In the last 24 hours, the heavy rainfall experienced in Luxembourg led the emergency services to conduct over 250 related interventions. The majority, 206, were for cellar floods, whilst 36 were related to road clearance issues.

The calls received were primarily between 16:00 and 23:00 and concerning the municipalities of Dudelange, Roeser, Frisange, Weiler-la-Tour, Hesperange, Schengen, Mondorf-les-Bains and Bettembourg, the latter of which experienced several railway closures due to technical faults resulting from the floods.

Fortunately no injuries were recorded, but two campsites in Alzingen and Diekirch had to be evacuated.

"The emergency services responded in an exemplary manner to the call for help," Minister Kersch commented in expressing his gratitude on behalf of the government of the availability and commitment of volunteers, who he called "an essential link in the emergency services and will remain an essential pillar of the future CGDIS."
