After the ArcelorMittal production site in Differdange was put on a heightened level of security due to toxic fumes, the crisis unit of the government has announced that subsequent tests carried out throughout the day on Tuesday 14 June 2016 on two scrap metal containers present on the site have proved negative.

The contents of both scrap metal containers were continuously analysed, unloaded and sorted. No objects were found to show traces of chemical or biological residue. Experts from the Luxembourg Army have confirmed that the shells found in the two containers came from conventional weapons which were properly disarmed beforehand.

Based on these results, it was confirmed that the population was at no time exposed to a risk to public health and safety, and the government crisis unit chaired by Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, has been disabled.

Notwithstanding, in parallel with the investigation by the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines, the prosecutor has asked the judicial police to determine the health origins of the three workers in question, which still remains unknown.
