On Monday 20 June 2016, Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, was awarded the medal of liberalism by Liberal International, the highest distinction awarded by this federation.
The medal was presented to Xavier Bettel at the Hôtel de Bourgogne by a delegation from Liberal International, led by its president, Dr. Juli Minoves. Liberal International has been federating liberal and social liberal political parties around the world since 1947.
In his address, Dr. Juli Minoves stated that Liberal International chose to award the medal to Xavier Bettel for "his commitment to liberalism at the national and international level".
"I am pleased and honoured to receive this award ask that you thank the members of Liberal International, in particular the Executive Committee who made this decision," Xavier Bettel commented upon receiving the distinction.
