On Thursday 23 June, a 19 year-old man lost his life in an accident in which the Jeep in which he was travelling with his father crashed in a forest area.
The accident happened at around 17:50 on the road between Merscheid and Niederfeulen. Their vehicle left the forest track and plunged 5 metres into a creek (Mëschelbaach).
The son, a passnger in the vehicle, was killed instantly. The driver, the victim's father, raised the alarm and called the emergency services. The accident site was very difficult to access and required the services of the police helicopter. The driver was airlifted to hospital and was described as being in a critical condition.
