Luxembourg's food safety authorities have been informed by the European Commission's Early Warning System RASFF that certain "Süsse Aprikosenkerne" (Soft Apricot Kernels) have been withdrawn from sale due to a high hydrocyanic acid content.

Hydrocyanic acid is a naturally-occurring toxin that if formed from natural substances such as amygdalin. These substances are contained in certain kernels, such as those of fresh apricots. Hydrocyanic acid levels are normally low is soft cores but high in bitter kernels.

The products were distributed in Luxembourg via the shops Naturata and Mullebutz. They have since been taken off the shelves by these distributors but certain compromised products have already been sold.

The 250g products with the bar code 4044-0191-5011-6 have been affected. The following lot numbers have specifically been compromised: L160649; MHD 31.03.2017;
L160923; MHD 29.04.2017; FA151071; MHD 15.09.2016; FA151094; MHD 15.10.2016; FA150960; MHD 24.10.2016; FA150959; and MHD 26.09.2016.

The Luxembourg public is advised not to consume the specific aforementioned products.
