Luxembourg’s Ministry for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure and its Department for the Environment have announced that the European Parliament’s Inquiry Committee will visit several Member States as part of its policy on emissions in the automobile sector.

Luxembourg, France and Germany are among those countries being visited, with the Grand Duchy’s visit taking place on the afternoon of 21 September. There was be a meeting with the head of the National Certification and Accreditation Society (SNCH), Claude Liesch, and a meeting with the Minister of Environment. Carole Dieschbourg, at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure. The event will offer those involved the opportunity to exchange views on the matter.

During the Luxembourgish Presidency for the Council of the European Union, the Minister of Environment was particularly interested in a file concerning emissions tests, from the angle of European policies on the quality of air and issue directives (NEC). In fact, Luxembourg is of the opinion that any progress involving the quality of air requires a qualitative leap in regard to car emissions.

The aim of this exchange of opinions with the Inquiry Committee is to inform MEPs about Luxembourg’s position on the matter of cars in the market and also about the administrative procedures following the ‘Volkswagen’ scandal and other revelations.
