Luxembourg’s Public Roads Administration has announced maintenance works for removing vegetation on the country’s motorway system, from Wednesday 19 October 2016 until the end of February 2017.

These preparations to maintain the Grand Duchy’s roads have been made in cooperation with the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure’s Department of Environment, along with the Administration Services for Nature and Forests.

The plan is to carry out these works between 08:30 and 16:00 daily, so as to best avoid traffic disturbances. As part of the works, the hard shoulder and slow lane will be closed, when required.

The objective of these maintenance works is to insure complete road safety while optimising the ecological workings of hard shoulders on the motorway. On the one hand, the project involves the removal of trees and shrubs which are too close to the road or which block speed cameras, and on the other hand, it prioritises the developmet of natural vegetation, rich in biodiversity. The works to be carried out will not cause extra traffic noise, nor inconvenience drivers on the road.

The maintenance project is being combined with an evaluation of wood for the energy sector, for instance in wood-burning.
