Luxembourg’s Chamber of Commerce has announced its support for the new bill on immigration and the free movement of people.

The organisation applauds bill n°6992 which deals with the right of non-EU citizens to enter and stay in Luxembourg. The proposed law introduces five new types of residence permits into legislation. These new permits aim to promote investment and allow companies or individuals working in Luxembourg to continue their activity in the case of a major incident in their home country - in the case that this is outside of the European Union.

The Chamber of Commerce praises these measures which, in principle, form part of an ambitious immigration policy and simplifies the process for some people coming from outside the EU. Moreover, such measures should encourage entrepreneurship and contribute to the diversification of Luxembourg’s economy.

Nevertheless, the organisation emphasises that some precisions are still required before these measures can be implemented.
