On 18 January 2017, the Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economy, Étienne Schneider, discussed the Rifkin study with the Youth Parliament’s president, Amir Vesali.

At the meeting, Étienne Schneider and Amir Vesali discussed their opinions on the subject of the strategic study 'The 3rd industrial revolution study for the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg’, which was developed in collaboration with American sociologist and economist, Jeremy Rifkin.

In light of growing digitalisation and the rise of renewable energy, this large-scale study aimed to conceive a more sustainable and interconnected economic model for future generations, taking into account Luxembourg’s specific socio-economic situation.

Over 300 national socio-economic figures contributed to the study through nine themed work groups that developed scenarios and proposed strategic measures and projects.

At the meeting, Étienne Schneider stated that: “The third industrial revolution is at once a political, social and economic issue. Young people are the most concerned by this inevitable transition. It is important to consider their views on this new complex environment which is to come.” He added that the Rifkin study allowed young people to integrate their views and suggestions on this topic.

The Youth Parliament (Jugendparlament), which is a partner of the Chamber of Deputies, is a platform where young people aged 14-24 can discuss subjects which concern them. During the next intermediate plenary session on 11 February 2017, the Youth Parliament aims to adopt a decision on the Rifkin study.
