Accordign to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Directorate of Immigration, 46 Syrian refugees, including 25 adults and 21 children, arrived in Luxembourg earlier today, 1 February 2017.

This is the latest group of refugees from Syria to arrive in the Grand Duchy following the agreement of 18 March 2016 between the European Union and Turkey: for each Syrian re-admitted by Turkey from the Greek islands, the resettlement of another Syrian from Turkey to the Member States would be undertaken. A delegation from Luxembourg visited Ankara and Istanbul in November and December 2016 to conduct meetings with refugees selected by the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

The number of relocations carried out under this agreement in Luxembourg has amounted to a total of 98 people out of a total commitment of 190. The remaining 92 Syrian refugees will be resettled during the coming year.

Refugee status as provided for in the Geneva Convention and the Law of 18 December 2015 on International Protection and Temporary Protection will be granted to these resettled persons.
