Luxembourg police have launched an appeal for witnesses of two incidents that took place on Sunday 16 July 2017, involving the ignition of bales of straw.

On Sunday afternoon, a volunteer firefighter announced that around fifteen straw bales were burning in the Siercker Wee road in Burmeringen.

The voluntary fire brigades from Bous, Remich, Stadtbredimus, Mondorf-les-bains, Emeringen, Schengen and Burmeringen arrived at the scene.

While the fire brigade was putting out the fire, the owner of the straw bales removed the straw bales, which had not yet been completely burned, by means of a fork-lift truck from the brand. Using a plough, a path was laid to prevent the spread of the fire.

Since the event of arson cannot be excluded, the prosecutor was informed for a criminal investigation of the case.

Moreover, around 20:00 on Sunday, a fire broke out between Elvange and Bürmerange. In the rue de Wintrange, near the last place of fire, two straw bales were in flames. The voluntary fire brigade from Schengen was able to extinguish the bales.

Once again, the prosecutor's office was informed and the officials of the measurement and recognition service were requested. A call for witnesses has also been launched.
