Today, 24 August 2016, the Comité de Conjoncture analysed Luxembourg’s labour market situation in July 2016 and the national economic situation, reviewing a number of applications from companies which are facing temporary / seasonal difficulties, for partial employment subsidies.

In August 2016, the number of applications increased by three from the previous month. A total of ten companies introduced a partial unemployment grant application in order to benefit from the provisions of this measure during the following month. After analysing the dossiers, the Comité de conjoncture ruled favourably on ten applications.

The final decision being to grant financial support to companies temporarily confronted with a difficult economic situation is given by the Conseil du Gouvernement, the government cabinet.

In the companies concerned, it is expected that out of a total of 977 people employed, 481 staff are working reduced hours, temporarily. The costs charged to the Fonds pour l’emploi for the month of September 2016 would be €485,000 if all of the companies fully benefit from the partial unemployment schemes granted.

The Comité de conjoncture issued positive responses in relation to three requests for tax exemption of redundancy benefits to volunteers under Article 115 (10) L.I.R. on the eligibility of 36 people in the companies concerned.

The next meeting of the Comité de conjoncture is set for 28 September 2016.
