In line witht he government's plan to reduce the number of municipalities with numbers less than 3,000 inhabitants, the government cabinet has approved two mergers of municipalities in the Grand Duchy.

The proposed merger of the municipalities of Hobscheid and Septfontaines will go ahead and will, in the future, be referred to as "Habscht" from 1 January 2018. Its headquarters are in Eischen. In both towns, inhabitants voted in favour of the merger in a referendum.

Also, the proposed merger of the municipalities of Boevange-sur-Attert and Tuntang ewill go ahead and will, in the future, be referred to as "Helperknapp" from 1 January 2018. Its headquarters will be in Tuntange.

In all the above towns, inhabitants voted in favour of the mergers in referenda.
