At the invitation of Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, and High Representative of the Union of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs will meet at Luxembourg's European Convention Centre on 4 and 5 September for the 'Gymnich' informal meeting.

The first day, Friday 4, will constitute an examination of the various ways in which the EU may reinstate the peace process in the Middle East and improve the situation within the region. Further discussion will centre on the Eastern Partnership of  the EU and the relations between Member States and Russia. Talks will be conducted in the presence of President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament (AFET), Elmar Brok.

Representatives of EU membership candidate countries will join the Ministers on the following day, Saturday 5, to exchange views on migration and the challenges currently faced by the EU and its candidate countries in this respect. Talks will then focus on Iran-EU relations, following the conclusion of the Iranian nuclear agreement which will end several decades of economic embargos against Iran in return for restrictions to its nuclear programme.
