On Wednesday 25 November 2015, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, will be in Tehran at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

In Tehran, the head of Luxembourg diplomacy will be received in audience by the President of the Islamic Republic, Hassan Rouhani, before meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, as well as the Parliament Speaker, Ali Larijani, and President of the Strategic Research Centre of the Expediency Council, Ali Akbar Velayati.

The meetings will aim to first of all take stock of the development of relations between Luxembourg and Iran, particularly with regards to the recent Iranian nuclear deal signed in Vienna in July earlier this year.

Talks will then focus on international and regional events, including the Near and Middle East. The Minister is expected to discuss the conflicts in Syria and Iraq with Iranian officials, particularly regarding the fight against ISIS. The meeting will also address the situations in Lebanon, Yemen and Afghanistan.
