On Tuesday 9 February 2016, Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will attend the meeting of the founding countries of the European Union being held in Rome.

Minister Asselborn will be present at the invitation of his Italian counterpart, Paolo Gentiloni, and will join foreign ministers from Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

As part of the preparatory work related to the commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, the meeting will enable ministers present to initiate a process of inclusive thinking and to strengthen the internal cohesion of the EU by returning to the fundamental principles at the heart of the European project.

The discussions will additionally allow Member States to review the EU's current status and the challenges it faces. Those present will review the ways of relaunching of the EU integration process, before addressing the issue of migration and the challenges resulting from the increasing flow of refugees to Europe. They will also exchange views on the EU's role on the world stage and its means of solving crises in neighbouring regions.
