As part of the campaign launched in March 2016 to increase representation of women in politics, the Ministry for Equal Opportunites has established a free telephone line to inform female candidates for the 2017 local elections.

The campaign aims to spread awareness among the Luxembourg public of the under-representation of women in municipal councils and motivate women to get involved in politics, particularly as the local elections draw closer.

The campaign will span 18 months and is divided into several phases to inform, mobilise and support future candidates on the electoral list. The toll-free number +352 8002-7722 is primarily, but not exclusively, geared towards women who have questions about their possible candidacy in the 2017 local elections, such as standing for election and the administrative steps required when applying for a nomination.

The hotline, operated by the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL), is open between 11:30 and 13:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but questions can be left outside these hours by answering machine message. In addition, similar information can also be obtained by emailing info-hotline@mega.etat.lu.
