On Wednesday, Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Lydia Mutsch, received the new Ambassador of the United States in Luxembourg, David McKean, at her office.

During the meeting, Minister Mutsch presented the basic principles of the Luxembourg health system to the US Ambassador. Ensuring access to quality healthcare to the entire population, Luxembourg's health system is now among the most comprehensive in the world.

In this context, the challenges in the field of health care, in general, such as tobacco control and obesity were discussed. The discussion also allowed an initial assessment of the "Obamacare" law in the US and its remarkable progress in the field of health technologies. Ambassador McKean showned great interest in relation to Luxembourg's efforts to adopt a Medical School as well as the pioneering role played by Luxembourg in the field of the removal of Ebola patients by air in 2015.

The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and potential trade between the two countries, especially in the field of health innovation, as well as on topics of public interest, including the future presidential elections the United States.

The director of Policy Planning at the State Department since 2013 and close adviser to John Kerry, David McKean was appointed the Ambassador of the United States to Luxembourg 6 months ago. The new US ambassador to Luxembourg is also the author of three books on the history of American politics.
