On 18 October 2016, Luxembourg’s Minister of Equality Lydia Mutsch attended the opening session of CID’s conference “Media and Gender- the Bermuda Triangle?”.

The Centre d’information et de documentation (CID) organised the two-day conference on gender representation in the media, during which the public had the opportunity to attend presentations by female experts and panels, as well as discussions between national and international experts on the subject.

The Minister of Equality’s role at the conference involved highlighting the importance of media in our daily lives and, in particular, the substantial media consumption by females.

Since a lot of content in the media reflects traditional and stereotypical gender roles for both men and women, it goes without saying that it can have an impact on our own behaviour.

Lydia Mutsch also used the event as an occasion to point out the many efforts made by the Ministry of Equality to counter this situation. One such example is the creation of the data bank Expertisa, made in conjunction with CID- Fraen an Gender, which brings together female experts to consult a wide range of subjects through the use of the media.
