The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, had a meeting with the Deputy Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, Bruno Stagno Ugarte, in Luxembourg, on Friday 21 October 2016.

Human Rights Watch is a nongovernmental organization for human rights, non-profit and with around 400 employees worldwide. The organization engages in promoting the defence of human rights, the rule of law, freedom of the press, the abolition of the death penalty and torture, and respect for all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

During the meeting, Minister Asselborn and Deputy Executive Director Ugarte specifically addressed respect for the rule of law and the defence of human rights worldwide. They also made an overview of the different situations that currently pose challenges in this area, as well as efforts being made to ensure that human rights are respected in all cases.
