At the 30th anniversary of the Foyer Sud - Fraen en Nout, Minister of Equal Opportunities, Lydia Mutsch, emphasised that domestic violence is a societal scourge that demands permanent vigilance.

At the celebration held on 15 February, Minister Mutsch highlighted how recent developments in certain countries represented a real step backward in the fight against domestic violence, with an abandonment of support programmes for victims of domestic abuse in some and the recent decriminalisation in others.

Russian President Vladimir Putin this month signed a law decriminalising some forms of domestic violence.

According to the minister, these developments demonstrate the need to ensure that the achievements of decades of fighting for the rights of thousands of girls and women are under challenge.

The minister finally underlined that Luxembourg has an exemplary legislative and social arsenal that protects and empowers victims, with the Foyer Sud - Fraen an Nout of the National Council of Women of Luxembourg a long-standing partner among them.
