Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, took part in the 2017 Security Conference in Munich this Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 February.

Each year, the conference aims to provide a platform for exchanges of views on current and future challenges related to security policy, and has reportedly emerged as one of the key annual events on global security policy.

This year's debates focused on the future of transatlantic relations and NATO following the election of Donald Trump, and also provided an update on the European Union's work in the field of security and defense policy, notably the crisis in Ukraine and relations between the West and Russia, as well as the ongoing war in Syria and the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly North Korea.

Key themes of the conference included challenges in the global fight against terrorism, as well as threats to health and environmental security.
