Luxembourg members of NATO’s KFOR 51 peacekeeping force in Kosovo returned home this Saturday after four months in service.

An officer, four non-commissioned officers, two corporals and sixteen soldiers of the Luxembourg army returned to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and were welcomed with a ceremony at Luxembourg Airport in the presence of relatives and relatives of the members of the contingent.

Since June 1999, NATO has been leading a peace support operation in Kosovo in support of international initiatives to consolidate peace and stability in the region. Since the transition to the second stage of the disincentive phase in March 2011, the Luxembourg Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platoon is directly subordinate to the KFOR headquarters. The platoon is articulated into two ISR sections, a command team and a maintenance team.

Following the government's decision to redeploy the Luxembourg contingents, a contingent, KFOR 52, will again start for Kosovo. Luxembourg’s role in the KFOR mission will therefore end in October this year.
