Luxembourg Airport today announced that for the third consecutive year, it has exceeded the threshold of 2 million annual passengers.

This total was reached by mid-September 2015, having been achieved more rapidly than the first milestone in December 2013 and the second last year in mid-October.

This increase in traffic was attested to last month with the report from Luxembourg Airport that it had handled more than 266,000 passengers in the month of September 2015, up 10% from the same month in 2014. Traffic was up 7.6% for the year as a whole, culminating in a total of 2,044,000 passengers by the end of September this year. The overall traffic at the same period in 2014 amounted to 1,899,000 passengers.

This however does not correspond to the same growth rate in terms of aircraft movements, which increased by just 2.9% in September and 2.2% for the total year. Luxembourg Airport reported that this was due to a higher occupancy rate and the use of larger capacity aircraft for the same distances.

September was also the month of the maiden flight of Chalair, an airline now serving daily weekday travel between Luxembourg and Lyon.
