As announced last October, Aegean Airways have commenced flights between Luxembourg and Athens.

While the first flights took place last Thursday and Saturday, the official inaugural flight was celebrated today, Thursday 26 May 2016. After the formalities of speeches and the ceremonial cutting of a cake, Lux-Airport's CEO Johan Vanneste was on hand to welcome to Luxembourg the passengers of the incoming flight from Athens, but not before the plane received the customary water cannon baptism when taxiing into position on the tarmac.

Johan Vanneste also cut the ceremonial ribbon, declaring the route now open, and presented the four Aegean Airways stewardesses with gifts; meanwhile, the passengers waiting to board the inaugural flight to Athens were treated to crémant and chocolates in the departure lounge.

Operating on Thursdays and Saturdays between 19 May and 29 September 2016, the Luxembourg-Athens service provides passengers with a direct link to the Greek capital as well as onward connectivity throughout the Greek islands and mainland Greece. Over and above the domestic connections, Luxembourg-Athens service offers a high number of connecting opportunities to cities in the neighboring countries such as the Balkans and Turkey as well as cities in the Middle East.

The flights are operated using 174-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, offering a dual class configuration and full onboard service, which includes complimentary food and drink.
