Last week three of Luxembourg’s short track athletes took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Erzurum in Turkey, where Caroline Murphy, Augustin Géré and Peter Murphy produced “stunning” results according to the report from the Union Luxembourgeoise de Patinage de Vitesse, with gold and silver medals as well as a solid haul of personal bests and national records in the bag for their journey home.

Peter scored Luxembourg’s first ever European Youth Olympic Festival gold medal in the 1500 metres race, before racing off with the silver in the next day’s 500 metre race. In both cases he achieved a personal best, and a national record in the second day of racing.

Augustin won the 500 and 1000 metre B Finals, also scoring a personal best on the 500 metre race. Meanwhile, Caroline also raced to achieve personal bests and national records in both her 500 metre and 1000 metre events.

Their successes put Luxembourg in 3rd position for short track events, and in 8th position overall in the Festival.
