On Saturday evening, the 11th ING Luxembourg Night Marathon started at 19:00 from LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, with Kenya's John Komen setting a new course record with a time of 2:12:57 in the men's race which he also won last year in a time of 2:13:55 - the marathon distance being 42.195 km.

Komen beat the record of Bellor Yator of 2:13:47 which he recorded when winning in 2012; he also won in 2013. Yator finished 2nd this year in a time of 2:14:52, with Kenyan Duncan Cheriyot Koech coming 3rd in a time of 2:16:22.

In the women's race, the Ethiopian runner Yigezu BELAYNESH won in 2:42:34, with Kenya's Kimaiyo RAEL JEPYATOR second with a time of 2:44:25, and Ethiopia's Boku ZERFE third in a time of 2:50:54.

The best Luxembourg runner was Frazer Alexander who came 7th in the men's race with a time of 2:40:14, and the best Luxembourg runner in the women's race was Fabienne GEHLEN who finished 4th in a time of 3:10:11.

Germany's Lisa Hähner, with a time of 1:17:04 at 21 km, and Denmark's Steffen Falck, with 1:10:20 at 21 km, also set records on Saturday evening, in the half-marathon distance of 21 km, with Liz NEPPER the fastest Luxembourger in 7th in a time of 1:28:13. In the men's half-marathon, Luxembourg's Yannick Lieners came 2nd with 1:12:15.

A record 14,000 runners had pre-registered to participate in the full marathon, half-marathon or team run.

The 11th ING Luxembourg Night Marathon will take place on 27 May 2017.
