On Saturday, the Stade Boy Kohnen in Cessange hosted a hammer-throwing event at which Quentin Bigot (France) put in a near world class performance (adult men category), throwing the 7.25 kilo hammer over 77 metres.

Dozens of hammer throwers and discus throwers turned out for the event, coming from Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Greece and The Netherlands especially for the event.

Throwers of every age and skill level competed but the performances of Quentin Bigot from Amneville and Hristos Frantzeskakis from Greece were the highlights of the day.

Adam King, manager of the three man Irish team, said "hammer throwing is very much a minority sport, but we work very hard and there is no shortage of enthusiasm, as witnessed by the big international turnout for this event, organised by Luxembourg champions Steve and Mireille Tonizzo and the CSL club in Luxembourg".

Among other good performances, Luca Martini managed to break the Malta national record for the under 18 category.
