Registrations are now open for the 33rd edition of the 'S.d.S Sport-Wochen' of Luxembourg City's Sports Department.

For over 30 years, the Ville de Luxembourg has organised sporty activities for people aged 11-17 over the summer period, as part of its plan to engage boys and girls from all ages and walks of life in physical activity in their free time and subsequently improve their development and well-being.

The 2016 edition, running from 16 July to 4 September 2016, will present the opportunity for young people to discover one or more new sport or improve a particular discipline during the summer holidays, as well as share experiences with their peers and make new friends. Special attention is paid to health and active lifestyles during this period, and teaches its participants about balanced diet, adequate water and rest and healthy sporting practices.

This year, the programme consists of four 'Mini Sport-Wochen' for youth aged 11-12 years old and 14 'Sport-Wochen' for those aged 13-17. These 18 sporting weeks are organised with or without overnight stays in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg and abroad, with a varied duration of 4-7 days.

'Mini Sport-Wochen' activities have been developed with the specific age range in mind, and include Mini Multisports, Mini Multisports Water, Mini Sailing in the Netherlands and Mini Maxi-Sports as a programme offering those aged 11-12 to discover the sports offered to 13-17 year olds.

For their part, 13 to 17 year olds will be able to get involved in cimbing courses, mountain biking, riding, martial arts, water sports, wakeboarding. Other options include Multisports in Italy; Sailing, Surfing and Kiting in the Netherland; Dance Arts; and Outdoor thrills such as rafting, canyoning and climbing in the Ötztal alpine valley in Austria. The additional Sportsfun on Wheels one-week programme will focuse on wheel-based sports, such as BMX biking, karting, mountain biking, segways and skateboarding, among others.

Registration for these summer sports is open to all young people aged between 11 and 17, regardless of whether or not they live in Luxembourg City. City residents will eb able to find more information in a 'S.d.S Sport-Wochen' brochure which will be distributed by post. Other commune residents may also register, but the price for non-residents is slightly higher than that of City inhabitants.
