Following two defeats in their opening two games in the 2016-2017 IIHF World Championships in ice hockey, Luxembourg recorded a 7-1 win over Hong Kong on Sunday.

Under coach Petr Fical, Luxembourg secured a 7-1 win (3-0, 3-1, 1-0), with goals from Georges Scheier, Ronny Scheier, Colm Cannon, Marcus Eriksson (2) and Joel Holtzem, to keep the team in with a chance of a medal. Luxembourg's Mirko Mosr earned himself the award for "Best player of the game".

Overall it was a great team performance, which was much needed prior to Monday game against Georgia, the surprise of the tournament. Last year, Luxembourg beat Georgia 15-3, but this year, the challenge will be a very different one. Georgia has surprised everybody by almost beating top ranked Turkey in a tight 4-5 game (Luxembourg lost 2-10 against Turkey), and by beating South Africa 6-5 on Sunday (Luxembourg lost 2-3 against South Africa).

A victory is required in order to stay in the race for a medal.

Luxembourg's next games are against Georgia (today, 4 April 2016 @ 15:30 - live streaming at http://www.iihf.com/competition/540/live-stream/) and Bosnia on Wednesday 6 April.
