Many goals, an excellent atmosphere, good weather, that’s the summary of the traditional annual unified football tournament held by Special Olympics Luxembourg.
The partnership signed up with the football club of Luxembourg City, RFCUL, has shown to be working und the results were realised on the holy day of 9 May, Ascension Day.
The tournament, with seven teams participating from Luxembourg, France and Germany, was played on the club's synthetic pitch. The partners for three of the four Special Olympics Luxembourg teams were young girls and boys, players from the local club.
The collaboration between Special Olympics Luxembourg and RFCUL was very successful. The morning games were split between two groups/divisions and the final group games were played in the afternoon. In group 1, the two German teams (Trier-Saarburg, Ebernach) finished in front of SO Luxembourg (red) team and the French team of Merlebach, overall winner of the 2012 competition. Group 2 was a local affair with SO Luxembourg (violet) topping the group in front of SO Luxembourg (brown) and the team of SO Reuler.
The chairman of RFCUL, Armand Drews, and the representative of Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, Agnieszka Krukowska, presented the awards to the players of the different teams.
The football week continues in Luxembourg with the signing of a partnership with the National Football Federation (FLF) and two practice evenings with Luxemburgish elite clubs.
