In her first competition since her Australian Open qualifying disappointment, Luxembourg's Mandy Minella (ranked #170 in singles, and seeded 5th in the tournament), lost to Australia's Jessica Moore (ranked #345) in the first round of the Women's Singles at the Open Tennis Championship at Launceston, Tasmania, 6-2, 6-4.
In the Women's Doubles Tournament, the 30 year-old from Esch-sur-Alzette was playing alongside Ukraine's Nadia Kichenok (ranked #158). They had a good run and defeated Zhaoxuan Yang (China) and V WONGTEANCHAI (Thailand) in the semi-finals, 7-6, 6-1. In the final they were up against the unseeded pair of Lin Zhu (China) and Xiaodi You (China), who overcame them 2-6 7-5 [10-7].
