Luxembourg-based steel and mining company ArcelorMittal was presented with the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Indiana Chapter's (AFP-IC) 2015 Philanthropy Award for Outstanding Corporation at a ceremony held in Indianapolis on Wednesday 18 November 2015.

The Outstanding Corporation award dates back to 1983 with the AFP-IC. Past awardees have included Eli Lilly and Company, IBM, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Sallie Mae and more.

"AFP-IC presents the Indiana Philanthropy Awards each year to honour individuals, organisations and businesses for their philanthropic efforts," commented Nathan Hand, AFP-IC President. "ArcelorMittal is a great example of the philanthropic work that businesses are doing in their communities and we are happy to be able to highlight that special and generous work."

Winners of the AFP Philanthropy Awards are selected by a judging committee comprised of community leaders across all industry segments with a passion for philanthropy. Nomination requires information on the outcomes of philanthropic impact and achievements, as well as evidence of philanthropic support and innovative approaches to problem solving. Each judge scores the nomination forms and a winner is then determined based on majority vote by the committee.

Northwest Indiana nonprofit partner Dunes Learning Centre (DLC) nominated ArcelorMittal for the award, referring to the company's work with the Mighty Acorns environmental education and stewardship programme involving DLC, Shurly Heinze Land Trust and The Field Museum.

"ArcelorMittal looks to understand the needs and issues of local people, supports the local economy and employment, and protects the local natural assets that people depend on," explained Geoff Benson, executive director of Dunes Learning Centre, in support of the steel company. "From volunteer hours to board membership, ArcelorMittal contributes valuable ideas, time and talent to thousands of students including those at Dunes Learning Centre. With the support of ArcelorMittal, Dunes Learning Centre will provide transformative learning experiences in nature to more than 10,000 individuals next year."

"ArcelorMittal is beyond proud to be recognised as an Outstanding Corporation," stated Marcy Twete, division manager of corporate responsibility for ArcelorMittal Americas and the executive director of the ArcelorMittal USA foundation. "We are the first steel company to be awarded with this recognition. We take very seriously our commitment to our communities through our community investment and sustainability initiatives."
