A roundtable forum on tax justice, specifically in Africa, will take place next Tuesday 2 June from 18:30 to 20:30 at the Banque de Luxembourg auditorium on the Boulevard Royal in Luxembourg-Centre.

The discussion panel will include Otieno Michael Oloo, Chair of Tax Justice Network Africa (TJN-A), Franz Fayot, of the Luxembourg Chambre des Députés, Keith O’Donnell, member of Tax and Board, Mike Mathias, socio-economist and linked to the Luxembourg Green Party in Parliament, and Rainer Falk

The matter of tax justice is essential to not hinder the development of less-developed countries and populations – maintaining coherent policies of development are key. However, it is a current issue, which will be raised at the upcoming inaternational conference on “Financing for Development” to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 to 16 July.

The High Level Panel on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa estimates that at least $30 billion to $60 billion a year escape taxation in Africa – money that could be invested in education, healthcare or sanitation. Instead it is gulped by the vastly complex international finance system - an area Luxembourg plays a prominent role in. Considering the financial know-how at hand, can one hence infer that Luxembourg could just as well become a driving force for international tax justice, preventing developing countries’ tax money from disappearing into “the wild”?

This event is free and organised within the context of the upcoming Luxembourg Presidency of the EU.
