On 30 September 2015, BGL BNP Paribas welcomed Ian Goldin, Director of the Oxford Martin School at the  University of Oxford, as a guest speaker at the bank's 'Doers & Thinkers' September edition.

The 'Doers & Thinkers' initiative was developed ten years ago by BGL BNP Paribas to promote and share the values of action and thought which govern everyday activity and which are key to entrepreneurship and innovation.

Guest speakers are either 'doers', leading figures from the business community, or 'thinkers', from the academic or research sphere, and following last October's talk by the young Dutch entrepreneur Danny Mekić, it was the turn of Ian Goldin to offer his expertise to the Luxembourg audience.

Before joining Oxford University, Ian Goldin held a number of positions, including Vice President of the World Bank and advisor to Nelson Mandela. As Director of the Oxford Martin School, Ian Goldin leads a group of more than 300 researchers of various discplines who share the common mission to study the major issues of the 21st century and identify its most significant long-term challenges.

To Ian Goldin, migration is one of these challenges, as analysed in his book 'Exceptional People: How Migration Shaped Our World and Will Define Our Future'. He further outlined this phenomenon at his 'Exceptional People - Why Europe Needs More Migrants' conference held at BGL BNP Paribas in front of a large audience.
