On Tuesday 22 March 2016, the Luxembourg Ministry of Equal Opportunities will be holding a conference aimed at raising HIV awareness and experiences.

The event will aim to highlight the issue of HIV/AIDS through its often overlooked gender component. More specifically, it will bring together national and international experts to show how the psychological and social impact of HIV infection varies between gender.

Despite considerable advances in medicine, HIV infection always appears to return to existential questions, with sexuality, family life, parenthood and the desire for children subsequently challenged, redefined and renegotiated. The conference will attempt to explore how being a man or a woman influences the psychosocial processes caused by HIV infection, which either way remains a morally and physically heavy burden.

The conference will take place at 17:30 at the 'Schéiss' cultural centre, 142 Val Sainte-Croix in Luxembourg-Belair. Those wishing to attend are asked to contact the Ministry of Equal Opportunities at conference@mega.etat.lu, +352 24 78 58 12 or +352 24 78 58 14, or the HIVberodung of the Luxembourg Red Cross at jacques.kohl@croix-rouge.lu or +352 27 55 4500 before 18 March 2016.
