On Tuesday 18 October 2016, ADA will be holding its 36th “Midi de la Microfinance” as part of Financial Inclusion Week in Luxembourg.

During the event, ADA will discuss the possible threats posed by Fintech and telecom operators to Microfinance institutions and banks in the southern hemisphere. Mobile banking is already a reality in Kenya, Ghana and the Philippines. At first, this seems to be a very positive development, since mobile banking makes customer service easier and banks and microfinance institutions require fewer staff. However, customer relations have become more distanced.

As such ADA’s Midi de la Microfinance aims to discuss issues such as the social role played by microfinance institutions and whether or not telecommunication operators are now in control of customer relations and back office services.

Through discussion of such issues, the afternoon will deal with the very current subject of the appearance of new actors in a relatively closed market, as well as the emergence of competitors who are taking advantage of digital services to fill gaps in the market and develop good practices.

The event will take place on Tuesday 18 October between 12:00 and 14:00 in the Banque de Luxembourg’s auditorium (14 Boulevard Royal). The speakers will be James Onyutta, the executive director of Musoni Kenya, and Devyani Parameshwar, the product development manager of M-Pasa, UK. The moderator will be Laurent de la Vaissiere, Director, Information & Technology Risk at Deloitte Luxembourg.

The language to be used will be English.
