Cactus and the Luxembourg Red Cross have collaborated to help refugees by bringing them warm winter clothes and new underwear.
The purchase of these necessities came from donations from a campaign undertaken in Cactus stores conducted in the last quarter of 2015. Cactus provided various products at cost price to the Luxembourg Red Cross and delivered them to the National Collection Centre in Luxembourg city for distribution to various shelters.
A total of 3,600 donations were received, representing a value of €75,000. This initiative has allowed the Luxembourg Red Cross to better target assistance to refugees. A portion of the funds raised was released for the purchase of clothing, for which an urgent need existed. A second order is already planned.
Frank Schmit, Head of Fundraising at Luxembourg Red Cross, explained "The Luxembourg population has testified with exemplary generosity since the refugees arrived in Luxembourg. However, we lacked some property which, for hygienic reasons, can not be covered by the material gifts, such as underwear, socks, etc. It is through the Cactus action that we can meet these needs. But they are also the needs of the moment that we can now cover. Thus, we received 450 winter jackets and 400 caps, 450 pairs of gloves and 450 scarves, 450 pairs of socks, 450 items of underwear. I want to thank Cactus for this initiative but also all the customers for their generosity."
