The association "Les Amis de Gambie" and Lycée technique hôtelier Alexis Heck in Luxembourg have announced a Charity Dinner to be held on Thursday 17 November 2016 in the restaurant of the hotel school in Diekirch (rue Joseph Merten) in aid of the NGO ‘Les Amis de Gambie’ association to support an orphanage in Gambia.

The evening is being organised by students of T3HO1, T3HO2 and X2CU classes supervised by Alain Hostert (chef), Augusto Goncalves (pastry chef) and Claude Hilbert (Management and Administration) of the Alexis Heck hotel school.

“Les Amis de Gambie” is a Luxembourg NGO that has existed since 2002. In Gambia (West Africa), 66,000 children are growing up without parents. In 2005 the NGO has started to build an orphanage in Gambia. With the help of many sponsors and volunteers, the construction was completed and the orphanage was opened in January 2009. Today, 25 children have found a home. Children have the opportunity to stay there until the age of 18. Eventually, the NGO intends to provide 30 children with a safe home, including a quality education to enable them to become healthy adults with a positive vision of the future. In addition to providing a home in which they feel good, it teaches children the importance of working together for a sustainable and peaceful world. The energy that feeds the orphanage is provided by solar panels and a wind turbine.

The organisation also contributes to improving the living conditions of the village community. Thus three boreholes (water wells) were installed in the village.

There will be a presentation of ‘Les Amis de Gambie’ and its projects during the evening.

Tickets cost €65/person and can be reserved (by 11 November) by contacting by Chantal Schanck-Leyder (Tel: 691-994459, email: chantalschanck@outlook.com) and transferring the amount to
