Following the success of the educational project “Minilënster”, SEA Päiperlék has awarded a cheque for €1,558 to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.
Last January, the miniature city “Minilënster”, came to Junglinster for the fifth time to welcome around 600 children aged between six and fourteen for two weeks. Many of the students took part in an act of solidarity by raising funds for the charity SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.
On receiving the cheque for €1,558, Viviane Lima, who represented the charity, thanked the children, their parents and SEA Päiperlék, the organiser of the “Minilënster” project, for their hard work.
Just as in a real-life city, children in “Minilënster” must work to earn money. There is also a town council, elections, an organisation for employment, a university, and a bank, among other places which resemble real life. Moreover, during the two weeks, the children involved had the opportunity to learn about the subject of refugees, through role play.
As part of the project, the children gave the money they had earned working in “Minilënster” to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, with their parents changing the fictitious money into real euros. The sum raised will go to SOS’s Village d’Enfants in Sao Domingos, Cap Verde.
The money will be used to finance the construction and enlargement of this village along with the implementation of a youth centre for young people aged between 14 and 18, who come from the village. It aims to give these young people a semi-independent lifestyle whilst under a teacher’s supervision. The village can house up to 100 young people in the local community.
