Yesterday Wednesday 28 June 2017, the Cancer Foundation presented a cheque for €156,798 to researchers Prof. Dr. Daniel Theisen and Dr. Alexis Lion of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH).

With this amount, the Cancer Foundation will support a research project entitled "Motivational interviewing to increase physical activity behaviour in breast, endometrial and colorectal cancer patients in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: a pilot randomised controlled trial". This research project aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of motivational interviews/meetings on the physical activity level of cancer patients.

The study will be conducted by the LIH Sports Medicine Research Laboratory and will focus on patients who have (non-metastatic) breast, colon or endometrial cancer. Two groups of patients will be analysed: one group will be selected at random and will receive, in parallel with care, a motivational interview/meeting per week for 12 weeks and a second group, the control group, will receive only care. Several measures will be taken with participants in both groups before and after, and six months after follow-up.

The results of this pilot study will assess the value of introducing motivational interviews/meetings into clinical practice.
