On Thursday 28 April 2016, Luxembourg Minister for Equal Opportunities, Lydia Mutsch, chaired the Constitutent Assembly of the Women's Labour Committee ('Comité du Travail Féminin').

The Committee is a consultative body was created by the Grand Ducal regulation of 27 November 1984 as amended by the Grand Ducal regulation of 31 March 1996. It is responsible for studying, either at its own initiative or at the request of the government, all matters related to the activity, training and professional advancement of women. It promotes all actions which seem likely to improve the situation of women.

During the meeting, the minister praised the key role of the committee in advising the government on all important issues to ensure that equality between women and men is guaranteed in all areas and at all levels. She particularly highlighted the valuable contribution made by the Committee in its recent opinion voiced regarding the draft law N°6892 regarding implementing certain provisions of the Women and Men Equality Plan 2015-2018 carrying 1) amendment of the Labour Code 2) amendment of Article 2 of the amended law of 21 December 2007 regulating the financing of political parties.

The Committee consists of 21 full members and an equal number of alternate members, appointed by the Minister for a renewable three-year term. This comprises four representatives of women's groups proposed by the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL); four representatives of professional organisations of employers; four representatives of national trade unions; and nine government representatives. Minister Mutsch thanked the members for their commitment and excellent work.

The following office was elected for the next three years: Viviane Jeblick, president, representative of trade unions; Danielle Haustgen, vice-president, representative of professional organisations of employers; and Anik Raskin, vice-president, representative of women's associations.
