A report detailing figures from the Agence pour le développement de l'emploi (ADEM) published on Tuesday showed that Luxembourg's unemployment rate increased slightly from March to April 2015, whilst the number of job seekers decreased year over year by 3.9%.

On 30 April 2016, the number of available resident job seekers registered with ADEM stood at 17,040 - a figure which fell by 691 people, or 3.9%, from the same month of the previous year.

During a presentation of ADEM's 2015 report at the end of April, Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, stated that the unemployment agency has seen positive results from its strengthened support for vulnerable populations, with a year-on-year April decline of 5.6% among job seekers with health problems; 2.7% drop in older applicants aged 50 and over; and a 1.4% fall in those registered with the agency for over a year.

In April 2016, 1,454 people registered with ADEM, showing a 6.9% decrease compared to April 2015 and 246 less than those who registered in March 2016. The number of recipients on full unemployment benefits were also positive for April 2016, 330 people less than the same period of last year at 6,774.

At the end of April 2016, 5,458 people were assigned to employment schemes, down 1.1% compared to April 2015 and to March 2016 which stood at 5,503.

At the end of last month, employers reported 2,670 vacant posts to ADEM, which grew 2.0% compared to April 2015 but fell from the 3,621 available at the end of the previous month.
