Luxembourg's Secretary of Luxembourg for the Economy, Francine Closener, presided over the most recent meeting of the Comité de Conjoncture to analyse the labour market situation of August 2016 and the national economic situation.

In September 2016, the number of applications for temporary finanlical relief had not changed from the previous month. A total of ten companies has introduced an application for partial unemployment benefit concerning the month to come. After analysing the various dossiers, the Committee ruled favourably on nine requests in respect of companies temporarily confronted with a difficult economic situation. In these companies, representing a total of 981 people, will see 493 employees work reduced hours. The cost charged to the Fund for Employment for the month of October 2016 is €490,000 if all of the companies fully benefit from working schemes granted.

After the meeting, Secretary of State Closener said "The Comité de Conjoncture has noted with satisfaction the positive development that is felt for partial unemployment. An interim review of the first half of 2016 shows that of the fifty-six applications for partial unemployment being introduced to notice, only sixteen applications have finally resulted in compensation, which represents a burden on the Fund for Employment of €718,000 between January-June 2016".
