The British Chamber of Commerce has announced a "rentrée" lunch on Friday 23 September 2016 at 12.00 at La Table du Belvedere (4 Place de l'Europe, L-1499 Luxembourg-Kirchberg), with special guest speaker, Nicolas Mackel, CEO at Luxembourg for Finance, who will speak on the subject: “Brexit – is Luxembourg out to steal London’s financial crown?”.

With the UK’s decision to leave the European Union, a time of uncertainty has begun. Immediately following the referendum, financial centres such as Paris or Frankfurt have tried to outshout each other as to who gets the spoils of war, vying to become the next London. Amongst all this sound and fury, where does Luxembourg fit in? Does the Grand Duchy have a cunning plan to steal the City’s financial crown?

Nicolas Mackel is CEO of Luxembourg for Finance, the Agency for the development of the Financial Centre, since July 2013. He is a career diplomat, working for the European Court of Justice before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999. He was consecutively posted at Luxembourg's Permanent Representation to the EU (2002-07), as Deputy Chief of Mission at Luxembourg's Embassy in Washington DC (2007-11) and as Consul General in Shanghai (2011-13) where he was in charge of promoting Luxembourg's economic interests throughout China as the Executive Director of the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office.
