On Monday 7 December 2015, the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg hosted the official presentation of participation certificates to the 385 laureates of the 'Training for Company Tutors'.

Jean Billa, Chairman of the Committee on Vocational training at the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, was present at the ceremony of the initiative, which has received more than 3,500 entries since it was first launched in May 2010.

The aim of 'Training for Company Tutors' is to allow mentors tasked with supervising or supporting apprentices in companies to better perform this role through the provision of educational concepty which are based on the supervision of the apprentice, the transmission of skills and the assessment of skills acquired.

Current regulations state that participation in this training is mandatory for any company involved in the training of one or more apprentices, forming part of a quality assurance approach to learning and helping to not only improve the image of vocational training, but also to guarantee recognition of its diplomas and certificates beyond borders, to make medium-term learning a positive first choice.

Carlo Thelen, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, provided the welcome address, congratulating the recipients on their investment in the education of young apprentices. He remarked that as a practical training manager and course monitor of the apprentices at a company, mentors occupy a central role in the relationship with the lycée technique and the Chamber of Commerce.

Jean Billa then explained that the vocational training reform requires each tutor being able to assess an apprentice based on the skills to be acquired, highlighting the teaching of this new evaluation method as a valuable aid for all company tutors.
