The Microinsurance Network of Luxembourg today unveiled 'The State of Microinsurance', a new insider's guide designed to offer a better understanding of the field of microinsurance.

The annual magazine was developed by bringing together authoritative figures from the microinsurance sector as a means of taking stock of microinsurance activities and provide actors in the sector with an in-depth overview of the context in which they operate. The launch of the magazine aptly coincides with conference of the G20 Insurance Association of Turkey and Global Federation of Insurance Associations currently taking place in Turkey to discuss inclusive finance and insurance.

Véronique Faber, Executive Director of The Microinsurance Network, commented: "This magazine embodies what the Network stands for: The sharing of knowledge and the facilitation of open dialogue on key issues affecting the sector to increase access to valuable insurance for low-income people."

The first edition of the magazine offers readers the opportunity to learn more about the state of microinsurance on an international scale, drawing on data from the World Map of Microinsurance programme; failures and innovations in microinsurance distribution by MicroEnsure; the ILO's Impact Insurance Facility perspective on the complexity of meeting and assessing demand; the role of microinsurance in disaster risk management strategies from the Geneva Association; and a global perspective on various approached to regulation from A2ii.

Within the magazine, President of Bradesco Seguros Group, the Brazilian Insurance Federation (CNseg) and the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES), Marco Antonio Rossi, outlined the significance of the magazine for the field of microinsurance.

"It is of utmost importance that we in the sector exchange knowledge and share experience of what has worked and what hasn't, to encourage and facilitate innovation," Rossi explained. "It is vital that we continue to learn from one another with one goal in mind: a sustainable microinsurance sector which protects low-income populations from risk."
